Bottom ash (BA) from waste-to-energy (WtE) plants contains valuable components, especially ferrous (Fe) and non-ferrous (NFe) metals, which can be recovered as
secondary materials. Metal-free mineral fraction can be reused in construction industry. To assess the resource recovery potential of BA in the Czech Republic, it was necessary to obtain its detailed composition. The paper presents material and mineralogical composition of BA samples. Samples were obtained in two WtE plants in the Czech Republic. It was found that BA contains 15–24 wt. % of glass, 1.3–2.4 wt. % of ceramics and porcelain, 12–17 wt. % of magnetic fraction, 1.1–4.5 wt. % of Fe scrap and around 2 wt. % of NFe metals. The contents of individual components were also studied with respect to the BA granulometry and character of WtE waste collecting area.
