Larvae and pupae slowly developped in the logs kept at winter conditions outdoors as well as at low temperatures of 10, 5 and 0°C in the laboratory. Sub-adult spruce bark beetles can mature over winter and the percentage of surviving individuals was significantly higher then expected, indicating a high potential of so called unfinished generations on damages during following spring swarming. Managemental strategies are briefly discussed.
