Termín "absolutismus" označuje druh vlády, v němž má hlavní slovo panovník. Ten se snažil ovlivňovat většinu klíčových oblastí politiky. Ve studii se snažím postihnout historický vývoj tohoto pojmu od 19. století do současnosti. Názory jednotlivých historiků pojednávám v souvislosti s politickým děním v evropském a anglosaském prostoru, které ovlivňovalo nazírání na minulost, tedy i na raně novověkou monarchii, s níž se pojem "absolutismus" pojí.

The term "absolutism" means the type of government, controlled essentially by the monarch. He tried to influence the main spheres of politics in the absolutist monarchy. In my study, I would like to describe the historical development of the term from 19th century to present day. The study presents the opinions of the historians in European and Anglo-Saxon culture. Their attitudes to the history were created by their political situation, which was reflected in historical topics like early modern monarchy, connected primarily with the term "absolutism".
