Studie prezentuje a diskutuje šest základních teorií volební účasti: teorie socio-ekonomického statusu a zdrojů, teorie občanských orientací, teorie mobilizace, teorie racionální volby, teorie valenční politiky a teorie habituálního hlasování. Tyto teorie jsou diskutovány ze tří aspektů: (1) kauzální mechanismus vysvětlení volební účasti; (2) spojení mezi rozhodnutím účastnit se voleb a hlasovat pro konkrétní stranu; a (3) načasování rozhodnutí ohledně volební účasti.

The text presents and critically discusses six basic theories of electoral participation: the theory of socio-economic status and resources, the theory of civic orientations, the theory of mobilization, the theory of rational choice, the theory of valence politics, and the theory of habitual voting. These theories are discussed mainly from three aspects: (1) the causal mechanisms explaining why people vote; (2) linkage between the decision to participate and the decision about which party to vote for; and (3) the timing of voters’ decisions to participate in an election.
