The new method of a diagnostic instrument for an “in situ” timber assessment is based on the principle of measuring mechanical resistance against a tool (pin) penetration into wood. Experimental measuring was conducted using three softwood beams with damaged endings extracted from a historical building of an old citizen’s house in Prague. After cutting, the beams were analyzed for their physical and mechanical properties using standard samples. The results were used for a verification of measuring by specific NDT devices.
