    In the present study, we report data showing that a proinflammatory cytokine and environmentally-relevant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon interact to potentiate both DNA damage and the inflammatory response in alveolar epithelial type II cells, which may occur through coordinated upregulation of p38 MAP kinase activity.
