The problem of homogeneous nucleation of unoriented grains can be avoided by first producing a substrate that contains a high density of well-oriented, isolated SrM grains. These well-oriented seeds were formed by the breakup of polycrystalline, finely grained seeding layer prepared under optimum deposition and heat treatment conditions.
