AnnotationIn the 19th century Czech caricaturists included such excellent artists as A. J. Gareis, J. Mánes, H. S. Pinkas, K. Purkyně, M. Aleš, F. K. Kolár, K. Krejčík, K. V. Klíč, and others. The main focus here will be on Karel Krejčík (1857-1901), who was perhaps the most prolific figure in the field. His work filled the pages of the leading Czech periodicals, and to a great extent helped form the opinions and the tastes of their readers. He published the greatest number of drawings in the Czech magazine Humoristické listy, but also in the similar magazines Paleček and Šípy.
