AnnotationContrary to a crack in homogeneous material where we can separate normal and shear mode of loading, in the case of bi-material notch the stress distribution exhibit inherently combined mode of loading even for one singularity. These modes are inseparable. Using stability criteria including only normal mode of loading may lead to overestimation of a construction with bi-material notches. The criteria considering both normal and shear loading modes shown in the paper lead to more reliable assessment of general singular stress concentrations.
