AnnotationThis study investigates the role of transmembrane potential using planar lipid membranes reconstituted with purified uncoupling proteins (UCPs) and/or unsaturated fatty acids. We show that high membrane potential significantly promotes the protonophoric function of UCPs in the presence of fatty acids
