The sensor employs a special diffraction grating structure, which simultaneously couples light into a surface plasmon and disperses light for spectral readout of SPR signal. The sensor is demonstrated to measure refractive index changes as small as 3×10−7 and to detect short oligonucleotides down to 200 pM.
