Text dále popisuje cestu Spojených států směrem k intervenci v evropské válce – nesnadnou proměnu neutrála v bojující stranu. A konečně se soustředí na tři jihoevropské neutrály (Španělsko, Portugalsko a Turecko) a jejich politiku vůči oběma bojujícím stranám, jež odrážela měnící se strategickou situaci v Evropě. Description in English The article points out the dependence of the neutral status on attitudes of the aggressive powers throughout the Second World War. It further describes the U.S. path towards intervention in the European war – the uneasy transition of a neutral into a belligerent. Finally, it focuses on three South European neutrals (Spain, Portugal and Turkey) and their respective policies towards the opposing sides that reflected the changing strategic situation in Europe.
