Astronomie je věda, která si klade za cíl zodpovědět zcela zásadní lidské otázky. Jak vznikl vesmír a naše planeta? Proč hvězdy svítí? Existuje život i mimo naši planetu? Lidé jistě pozorovali dění na obloze a snažili se o jeho porozumění odnepaměti. První dochované záznamy pozorování Měsíce pocházejí asi už z období před 25000 let.
