The aim of this study was to better understanding totNTdegradation, especially to answer the question if TNT is metabolised by higly specific nitroreductases or by constitutive enzymes with nitroreductase activity. The enzym catalysed the first steps in the reduction of nitro groups was found using cell culture of Saponaria officinalis. It was NAD(P)H dependent with homology of oxophytodienoate reductase and was classified as a member of family of the „Old Yellow Enzyme“.
