AnnotationCarotenoids are essential for vitality and skin colour of ornamental fish species. Animals are unable to perform de novo synthesis of carotenoids, which must be included in diet, mostly as plant or algal biomass. The aim of these experiments was to examine the effect of carotenoid-rich microalgal biomass as feed supplement to increase coloration and vitality of ornamental fish species. We used spray-dried biomass of the green algae Haematococcus, Chlorella and Scenedesmus as a feed supplement for albinic form of sheatfish (Silurus glanis) bred in indoor tanks
