Annotation
This paper deals with two recent interesting developments for inelastic interaction of slow ions with atomically clean metal surfaces, i.e. kinetic electron emission (KE) in the threshold region ("surface assisted KE-sKE"), and excitation of plasmons due to the potential energy of the projectile ion rather than its kinetic energy ("potential excitation of plasmons - PEP"). We present some typical measurements and their physical interpretation.
