The paper deals with special optical fibers for /bio/chemical optical sensing. The first part is concentrated on materials for optical fiber production and their characterisation. The second part is concentrated on special fiber structures /multimode, single-mode or few-mode/ and related technologies of their preparation. The attention is given mainly to the special silica optical fibers for evanescent-wave sensing.
