The mechanical properties of 16MND5 (A508 C1.3) pressure vessel steel (and its resistance to brittle fracture) area decisive factor in the complex safety assesments of nuclear power plants.Cleavage fracture can be characterized as a sequential stochastic process of crack nucleation and crack propagation by a local reiniation of cleavage facets.
