Hysteresis loops in two stainless steels were recorded and analysed in detail using general statistical theory of the hysteresis loop. The effect of variations of the straining rate during cycling and their changes in the points of reversal were examined and analysed. The effective stress and probability density function of the critical internal stresses were determined using proper smoothing procedures.
