AnnotationAn interpretation of a famous portrait of the painter Hildebert and his assistant Everwinus at work in a scriptorium at a time when a mouse is stealing cheese from a table with their meal, which can be found at the end of a transcript of St Augustine's most extensive work, City of God (APH KMK A 21/1 f 153r). Polemic with the traditional interpretation of the illumination as a genre picture. The position of the manuscript in the cultural atmosphere of Vladislav II's court, in particular in relation to the personality of Olomouc Bishop Jindřich Zdík.
