Účelem příspěvku je stručně objasnit pojmy fraktál a chaos a ukázat adekvátnost jejich využití při popisu soustav dynamicky se měnících v čase. Porovnáním klasické euklidovské a fraktální geometrie jsou ilustrovány přednosti fraktálního přístupu k charakterizaci přírodních struktur. V oblasti chaosu je diskutována základní terminologie a jsou zmíněny některé aplikace teorie chaosu využívající nelinearitu v procesu a řízení se zpětnou vazbou.

Short introduction into the world of fractals and deterministic chaos in presented. Particular emphasis on what fractals, conceptually and physically represent, is introduced in the first part. It is demonstrated that fractual geometry is much closer to the description of the real world then the Eucleadien one. The notions of self similarity and fractal dimension are discussed in the second part. The most important terms and notions from the field of deterministic chaos and fractal demensions are revealed and illustrated using some simple examples.
