Specimens of the physalopterid nematode Proleptus obtusus Dujardin, 1845 collected from the intestine of the puffadder shyshark Haploblepharus edwardsii (Voigt) off De Hoop Reserve, Cape Province, South Africa, made possible the redescription of this little-known species.
