Cleavability of the drug from the oligopeptide side-cahins of polymeric carriers was regarded as a key mechanism ensuring pharmacological activity. In view of the newest results, this seems to be a mistake and intracellular cleavage of doxorubicin is not a necessary prerequisite for the pharmacological activity of HPMA-based conjugates
Štěpitelnost polymerních konjugátů na bázi HPMA byla dříve považována za podmínku jejich účinnosti. Dnes víme, že jejich účinek není vázán na štěpitelnost a ani vstup konjugátů do buněk není vázán na aktivní transportní mechanismy jak bylo předpokládáno. Tato léčiva pronikají do buněk velmi rychle(v řádu sekund) a akumulují se ve všech membránových strukturách a způsobují poškození membrán
