The intention of the workshop was to discuss and learn common causes of earthquake swarms in those, from viewpoint and geological evolution and recent geodynamics, entirely different regions. Special attention was paid to crustal fluids and their relevancy in triggering and actuating the earthquake swarms. Conclusions of the conference can be summarised as follows: tectonic faults in the earthquake swarm regions are in subcritical steady-state due to regional tectonic stress; pore pressure of crustal fluids brought favourably oriented faults to a critical state, which results in the swarm activity. Selected papers will be published in the Special Issue of international journal Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, which will be issued in October 2008.
