Social capital and lifelong learning are central to current policy concerns both in the UK and internationally, according to Field. This book confirms the sig¬nificance of both issues and it is aimed mainly at researchers in education and policy studies. Empirical evidence presented within the reviewed book is fo¬cused on Northern Ireland, which makes the discussed topic even closer to the context of the Czech Republic, as many similarities could be observed between both countries, including the rate of adult learning participation.

Tématům sociálního kapitálu a celoživotního učení je podle J. Fielda v posledních letech věnována velká pozornost ve Velké Británii i v mezinárodním kontextu. Tato kniha potvrzuje význam této problematiky a je určena primárně výzkumníkům zabývajícím se vzdělávací politikou. Empirická evidence je zaměřena na Severní Irsko, které je v mnoha aspektech podobné s Českou republikou, což publikaci činí bližší situaci u nás.
