První svazek kritické edice Komenského korespondence zahrnuje 71 listů odeslaných a obdržených od roku 1628 do prosince 1638. Jedná se o dopisy z prvého lešenského pobytu, kdy Komenský navázal kontakty s předními představiteli dobové republiky učenců. Mezi jeho korespondenty se v tomto období objevují mimo jiné jeho herbornský učitel Johann Heinrich Alsted, literární vzor Johann Valentin Andreae, londýnský přítel a propagátor Samuel Hartlib, několika listy je tu zastoupena korespondence mezi Komenským a Karlem starším ze Žerotína. Dopisy jsou psány z větší části latinsky, ale také česky a německy. Několik dopisů je zde publikováno poprvé, ostatní dopisy jsou poprvé zpřístupněny s veškerým aparátem kritické edice. Vedle předmluvy shrnující dějiny bádání o Komenského korespondenci, údaje o korpusu dochovaných Komenského dopisů, pramenných sbírkách a edičních principech obsahuje svazek textově kritický aparát a obsáhlé věcné komentáře, regesty jednotlivých dopisů, bibliografický soupis, obrazové přílohy a rejstříky osob, prací a geografických názvů.

The first volume of Comenius’s correspondence critical edition includes 71 letters sent and received covering the period from 1628 until December 1638 when he stayed in the Polish town of Leszno. Here he bulit his contacts with outstanding representatives of the Republic of Letters, such as his teacher from Herborn Johann Heinrich Alsted, his favourite author Johann Valentin Andreae, his friend and supporter from London Samuel Hartlib and his patron Charles the Elder of Žerotín. Several of these letters are published for the first time, other edited letters include for the first time the full critical apparatus. Apart from the introduction which deals with history of research into Comenius’s correspondence, with corpus of his extant letters, collections of sources and editorial principles, the volume includes critical apparatus, voluminous annotations, abstracts of individual letters, bibliography, illustrations, and indexes of book titles, and personal and geographical names.
