Modelování témat je výpočetní metodou, která reprezentuje dokumenty ve sbírce jako směsi latentních témat a témata jako směsi slov uspořádané dle sémantické blízkosti. Kapitola tuto metodu aplikuje na plné texty ze souboru 510 článků publikovaných v Sociologickém časopisu v letech 1993–2016. Na tematickém modelu je následně demonstrováno, že mezi jednotlivými tématy existují nerovnosti ve vztahu k týmovým charakteristikám (individuální vs. kolektivní autorství), genderu prvních autorů i počtu citací. Tyto nerovnosti částečně přetrvávají i na vyšších stupních tematické agregace. Časová řada naznačuje možnou souvislost preferovaných témat s obsazením pozice vedoucího redaktora časopisu. Výsledky ukazují, že modelování témat může fungovat jako alternativa k tradičním kvantitativním obsahovým analýzám a že volba tématu v české sociologii souvisí se sociálními charakteristikami badatelů i s recepcí výzkumné práce.

Topic modelling is a computational method that represents documents in a collection as mixtures of latent topics and topics as mixtures of words ordered by semantic proximity. The chapter applies this method to the full texts of a collection of 510 articles published in the Czech Sociological Review between 1993 and 2016. The topic model is then used to demonstrate that inequalities exist between topics in relation to team characteristics (individual vs. collective authorship), gender of first authors, and the number of citations. These inequalities partially persist even at higher levels of topic aggregation. The time series suggests a possible association of preferred topics with the position of the journal’s managing editor. The results show that topic modelling can function as an alternative to traditional quantitative content analyses and that topic choice in Czech sociology is related to the social characteristics of researchers and the reception of research work.
