Předmluva navrhuje alternativu teoretické definice digitálních humanitních věd a výpočetních sociálních věd v podobě souboru demonstrativních případových studií, v nichž digitálně založené přístupy k výzkumu společnosti a kultury nacházejí praktické uplatnění. Rovněž definuje osy výkladu, kolem nichž se jednotlivé příspěvky soustředí: výzkumné infrastruktury, texty, historická data a současné problémy. Tyto osy ukazují, že v digitálních přístupech tradiční oborová kritéria nefungují a digitální obrat přirozeně vede k interdisciplinárnímu výzkumu. Předmluva dále představuje obsah jednotlivých příspěvků.

The introduction proposes an alternative to the theoretical definition of digital humanities and computational social sciences in the form of a set of demonstrative case studies in which digitally based approaches to the study of society and culture find their practical application. It also defines the axes of interpretation around which each contribution centres: research infrastructures, texts, historical data, and contemporary issues. These axes show that traditional disciplinary criteria do not work in digital approaches and that the digital turn naturally leads to interdisciplinary research. The foreword further introduces the content of each chapter.
