Cílem studie je identifikace dvou latinských zoologických termínů v díle Tomáše z Cantimpré a českého středověkého lexikografa Klareta, jejichž popisy pocházejí podle Tomáše od Plinia Staršího a Aristotela. Aristotelův termín 'aisalon', označující druh dravého ptáka, pronikl do středověku nejen prostřednictvím Plinia Staršího a klasického latinského jména aesalon, které se objevuje v podobě asalon u Tomáše z Cantimpré a v podobě asalus v Klaretově Glosáři, ale rovněž cestou přes překlady Aristotela do arabštiny a poté do latiny v podobě achilon, která se objevuje v jednom rukopise Národního muzea v Praze.

The main purpose of the article is to identify two Latin zoological terms in the works of Thomas of Cantimpré and the Czech medieval lexicographer Bartholomaeus de Solencia dictus Claretus. Their description is according to Thomas derived from Pliny the Elder and Aristotle. Aristotle’s term 'aisalon' denoting a species of a bird of prey reached the Middle Ages not only through Pliny the Elder and classical Latin name aesalon, which occurs as asalon in Thomas of Cantimpré's encyclopaedia and as asalus in Claretus' Glossary, but also via translations of Aristotle into Arabic and then into Latin in the form achilon, which occurs in one manuscript of the National museum in Prague.
