Laboratory tests were performed on the decomposition of polychlorinated biphenyls contained in transformer oil and BDE209 in hexane. The Fenton reaction was selected as AOP. several two-phase mixtures with different ratios of aqueous and organic phase were prepared. Ultrasound radiation was applied in order to increase the interfacial area. Experiments showed that a reaction with active radicals can take place also in system with relatively large volumes of the organic phase. The most appropriate ratio of the organic to the aqueous phase proved to be 3:1. Dehalogenation efficiency was higher when the reaction took place under the influence of ultrasound compared to dehalogenation efficiency of a mechanically stirred mixture.
