This study aims at evaluation of the influence of agitation conditions on the efficiency of the aggregation process in the treatment of surface water with a content of humic substances. Laboratory tests were conducted by jar tests using the variable speed paddle gang stirrer. Optimization of agitation intensity was determined by a model mixing device, in which aggregation takes place in a slot between two cylinders, with one rotating (a Couette type reactor). Suspension was prepared using raw water form different sources in the Czech Republic by adding aluminium chloride as a destabilising reagent. Aggregation efficiency was evaluated by a determination of the degree of aggregation and the test of aggregation.
