A modified method of the dynamic Brazilian test was used to study of fracture of soda – lime glass. This method is based on the Hopkinson pressure bar when the specimen is loaded by the direct impact of a striker. Specimen response to the impact loading is given by the stress pulse monitored in the pressure bar. The main characteristics of these pulses are compared with those obtained using the common dynamic Brazilian test. The use of the high speed camera showed that the qualitative features of the specimen fracture are very similar even if not the same for both used experimental techniques. The Johnson-Holmquist ceramic model (JH2) was used for the numerical simulation of the modified method using LS DYNA software. It was found that the agreement
between the computed and the experimental results improved with the increase in the striking velocity
