Nízký Jeseník patří mezi dlouho opomíjenou oblast České republiky, ačkoli jeho rozloha přesahuje 2800 km2. Těžba břidlice se nenávratně zapsala do charakteru krajiny. Nachází se zde více než 100 opuštěných břidlicových dolů, lomů a zatopených lomových jezírek. Pozůstaly po nich rovněž monumentální břidlicové haldy či hornické domy (Berghausy).

Nízký Jeseník is one of the long-neglected areas of the Czech Republic, although its area exceeds 2800 km2. Slate mining has irrevocably entered the character of the landscape. There are more than 100 abandoned slate mines, quarries and flooded quarry lakes. Monumental slate heaps or mining houses (Berghausy) also survived after them.
