Životní osudy Petra Figula se odvíjely na pozadí prohraného povstání českých stavů a pod vlivem jeho budoucího tchána J. A. Komenského. V exilu se postupně stal výraznou osobností jednoty bratrské, a to jak na poli církevním, kde se posléze stal seniorem (biskupem), tak společenském jako obratný diplomat. Byl schopen komunikovat v několika evropských jazycích, navazovat a udržovat styky i s významnými osobnostmi tehdejší evropské politiky. Komenský mu byl jistě vzorem, své schopnosti Figulus uplatňoval v řadě případů v jeho prospěch, na druhé straně v některých otázkách zastával vlastní stanoviska. Komenskému se stal neocenitelným pomocníkem, měl jeho důvěru a získal si jeho otcovskou náklonnost. Jeho kazatelská a pastorační i politická a společenská činnost činí z něj významnou osobnost českého pobělohorského evangelického exilu.

The eventful life of Peter Figulus was largely influenced by the unsuccessful Bohemian Revolt and the personality of his prospective father-in-law J. A. Comenius. In the exile, he developed into a prominent figure within the Unity of the Brethren, regarding the Church domain, where he acquired a senior (bishop) position, as well as a wider social and political field, acting as a competent diplomat. He was able to communicate in several European languages, establish and maintain friendly relationships even with prominent figures of contemporary European political life. Comenius certainly acted as Figulus’s role model, on a number of occasions he applied his skills to forward Comenius’s interests. There were, nevertheless, issues on which he took his own stand. Figulus became an invaluable companion to Comenius, winning his trust and fatherly affection. The wide range of his activities in the fields of homiletics, pastoral care, politics and social life make Figulus a prominent figure of the 17th-century Bohemian Protestant exile.
