Práce analyzuje různé projevy recepce řecké a římské antiky v období konce dlouhého 19. století, které se vyznačuje nápadným příklonem k antickým námětům, motivům a formám. První část se věnuje rozboru vybraných dobových mýtů a stereotypů o antice, výuce klasických jazyků na gymnáziu a problematice překladu z antických literatur, druhá část se zabývá inscenacemi antických dramat a původní českou dramatickou tvorbou s antickými náměty a ve třetí části je interpretována antická tematika v díle J. Vrchlického, J. Zeyera, J. Karáska ze Lvovic a J. S. Machara.

The publication addresses various manifestations of Classical reception in a period characterized by a strong inclination toward ancient themes and forms. The first part focuses on selected stereotypes regarding the Antiquity and on the main intermediaries of its reception, i. e. grammar school education and translation. The second part deals with drama and theatre and the third part traces Classical reception in the works of four poets: J. Vrchlický, J. Zeyer, J. Karásek and J. S. Machar.
