Recently, Lietal.[1]reported cleavage of the amidebond in formamide,N-methylformamide (NMF), andN,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) via dissociative electronattachment (DEA). They concluded that the lowest DEAband is mediated by a novel type of electronic resonance, adipole-supported core-excited resonance. There were twomain arguments for this conclusion: (i) elimination of othercommon types of resonances and (ii) coincidence of theDEA bands with the calculated highly polar excited statesof the neutral. I suggest that one of the mechanisms thatwas eliminated by Lietal., and which is common inorganic molecules, is operative also in the molecules inquestion.
