Čtvrtý svazek Sebraných spisů Karla Kosíka zahrnuje články, eseje, rozhovory a kratší příležitostné texty pocházející z let 1955 až 1969. V první části jsou shromážděny stati, jejichž prostřednictvím Kosík vstupoval do polemik o marxismu, o aplikaci marxistické metody i o negativních jevech socialismu. Předestírá zde svoji koncepci dialektiky vycházející z Hegela a Lukácse a načrtává obrysy vlastní verze marxistické teorie, která je v jeho pojetí společenskou kritikou. Druhou část tvoří články, v nichž Kosík dialektiku aplikuje na konkrétní fenomény umění a kultury. V analýze literárních děl (Hemingwaye, Kafky či Haška) rozvíjí úvahy o společenské roli kultury, politice, humanismu apod. Předkládaný svazek představuje Karla Kosíka jako veřejného intelektuála, který se vyjadřoval k aktuálním tématům své doby i k nadčasovým otázkám lidské existence. Svazek je uveden odbornou studií a obsahuje rozsáhlý poznámkový a edičním aparát Jana Mervarta.

The fourth volume of collected writings of Karel Kosík encompasses articles, essays, interviews and shorter text from the period of 1955–1969. The first part of the book contains texts that served as interventions into debates on Marxism, dialectics or negative aspects of then socialism. Kosík introduces there his concept of dialectics being influenced by Hegel and Lukács and outlines the concept of his own Marxist theory which is inseparable from a social critique.
The second part of the book contains articles in which Kosík applies dialectics to concrete phenomenon of art and culture. In his analysis of literary works (Hemingway, Kafka, Hašek) he elaborates considerations on social role of culture, on politics as well as on humanism. The volume presents Kosík as a public intellectual who covered actual themes of his era as well as questions of man’s existence. The volume is introduced by a study by Jan Mervart and includes large editorial apparatus.
