Předkládaná práce je výsledkem mého více než dvacetiletého studia a sbírání materiálu o Odorikovi z Pordenone, františkánském poutníkovi a misionáři 14. století, snad českého původu. Je podstatně rozšířenou a aktualizovanou verzí mé internetové (online) publikace vydané pod názvem Po stopách bratra Odorika. Styky Evropy a Mongolské Číny ve 13. a 14. století jako první svazek řady ANTHROPOLOGIA INTEGRA / SERIES MONOGRAPHICA. Brno: Akademické nakladatelství CERM 2014 (https://journals.muni.cz/anthropologia_integra/article/view/2420).
Práce si klade za cíl seznámit čtenáře s dílem tohoto cestovatele a řeholníka a jeho významem pro rané dějiny františkánství.
Práci uvádí studie seznamující čtenáře nejprve s Odorikovou dobou a prvními styky Evropanů s mongolským Východem a poté podávající přehled Odorikova curricula vitæ a přibližující jeho cestopis.
Studii doplňuje bibliografie použitých pramenů a literatury (strukturovaná podle témat i v abecedním řazení) a podrobné rejstříky.
Nedílnou součástí publikace je Biblioteca Odoriciana, přehled všech známých rukopisů jeho zprávy z cest po Asii (více než 130 položek) a tištěných textů, přímo se týkajících Odorika (edice cestopisu, vědecké studie a články), vydaných do druhé poloviny roku 2017 (dohromady téměř 800 položek).
Součástí práce je rovněž faksimile jednoho z latinských rukopisů, uloženého v Národní knihovně České republiky a překlad části textu, vztahujícího se k freskám v kostele sv. Františka v Udine.

This work is the result of my more than twenty years of studying and collecting material on Odoric of Pordenone, a Franciscan pilgrim and missionary of the 14th century, perhaps of Czech origin. It is a considerably extended and updated version of my online publication, titled Po stopách bratra Odorika. Styky Evropy a Mongolské Číny ve 13. a 14. století [On the Footsteps of Brother Odoric. Relations between Europe and Mongolian China in the 13th and 14th centuries], which was the first volume of the ANTHROPOLOGIA INTEGRA / SERIES MONOGRAPHICA series. The aim of the thesis is to acquaint the reader with the work of this traveller and religious man and his importance for the early history of Franciscanism.
The book introduces the reader to Odoric's time and the first contacts of Europeans with the Mongolian East, and then gives a summary of Odoric's curricula and introduces his travelogue.
The study is supplemented with a bibliography of the sources and literature used (structured by topic and in alphabetical order) and detailed indexes.
An integral part of the publication is the Biblioteca Odoriciana, an overview of all known manuscripts of his report on travels in Asia (more than 130 entries) and printed texts directly related to Odoric (editions of his travelogue, scientific studies and articles), published till the second half of 2017 (almost 800 items altogether).
The work also includes a facsimile of one of the Latin manuscripts deposited in the National Library of the Czech Republic, and a translation of a part of the text relating to frescoes in the Church of St. Francis in Udine.
