The article introduces the apologetically approached work of Prokop of Jindřichův Hradec, nowadays known under the title “Proč lidí k víře mocí nuceni býti nemají” (Why Authorities Shall Not Compel People to Faith). The treatise was probably written already some time after 1474, and in 1508 it was printed as a reaction to the ongoing persecution of the Unity of Brethren. Its main topic is the criticism of all voices calling for the use of violence pertaining to religious issues with the aim to eradicate heresy.
