V odvětví dobývání nerostných surovin je australské hornictví pojmem. A to jednak z hlediska širokého spektra těžených surovinových druhů, těžených objemů, tak i zavedených technických a inovačních procesů. Tento fenomén se odráží i v báňském záchranářství, kdy se ve velké míře uplatňuje preventivní činnost ve smyslu vyvíjení setrvalého tlaku na snižování úrazovosti v dolech, predikci rizik aj., tak i v poskytování profesionálních a expertních služeb při zdolávání mimořádných událostí v hlubinných a povrchových dolech. Autory popisovaná problematika shrnuje poznatky a zkušenosti získané během návštěvy báňské záchranné stanice ve Woonona (Wollongong) a návštěv důlních pracovišť na hlubinných uhelných dolech Appin, West Cliff, Clarence a Austar ve státě Nový Jižní Wales a dolu Oaky Creek North ve státě Queensland.

In the mineral raw materials extraction sector, Australia‘s mining industry is a major sector in its own right. This is true both in terms of the broad range of raw materials being extracted and in terms of the technical and innovation processes being applied. This phenomenon is also reflected in the mine rescue services where preventative activities are being applied to a wide extent in terms of exerting a sustained pressure aimed to mitigate the accident rate at the mines and to predict the existing hazards etc., as well as in terms of the provision of professional and expert services in dealing with emergencies and out-of-the ordinary events that occur at deep and open-cast mines. The range of problems described by the authors renders a summary of the knowledge and experience acquired during the course of a visit to the Woonona (Wollongong) mine rescue station and of visits to the mine workings of Appin, West Cliff, Clarence, and Austar deep mines in New South Wales and of Oaky
Creek North Mine in Queensland.
