Monografie podává detailní analýzu tvoření lexikálních jednotek vyskytujících se v pomístních jménech z území Čech. Podaný přehled slovotvorných (názvotvorných) prostředků a jejich funkcí obohacuje dosavadní poznání českého slovotvorného systému jako celku, a to především z vývojového hlediska: pomístní jména zachycují totiž i takové slovotvorné prostředky, které se dnes u apelativ již nevyskytují nebo jsou velmi archaické. V knize se zohledňují poznatky současné onomastické teorie zdůrazňující specifičnost propriální sféry jazyka, zároveň se vychází vstříc aktuálním potřebám onomastické lexikografie. Jedním z hlavních cílů práce je ověření tzv. parasystémové teorie.

The monograph presents a detailed analysis of formation of the lexical units occurring in the minor place-names from the territory of Bohemia. The survey of word-formation (name-formation) means and their functions enriches our present knowledge of Czech word-formation system as a whole, especially from the evolutionary point of view: minor place-names in fact testify even such word-formation means that are no longer present in contemporary common nouns or they are regarded as strongly archaic. Findings of the current onomastic theory stressing the specificity of the proper-name sphere of the language are taken into account in the book; simultaneously the present needs of onomastic lexicography are complied with. One of the main objectives of the monograph is the verification of the so-called parasystem theory.
