Studie se zaměřuje na výzkum okolností vedoucích ke vstupu Josefa Kalouska do parlamentní arény počátkem 80. let 19. století, a na jeho jednání v roli zemského poslance Národní strany (staročeši). Na pozadí významných událostí v Kalouskově osobním a profesním životě je v úvodu načrtnut jeho postoj k aktivní politice a jeho počáteční neúspěšné pokusy o zisk poslaneckého mandátu. Meritem další části příspěvku je pak detailní výzkum nominačního procesu v rámci Národní strany při doplňovacích volbách v roce 1880. Důraz je kladen na přiblížení komunikace mezi stranickou centrálou a místní, politicky aktivní reprezentací. Součástí této části studie je i deskripce podoby a průběhu předvolební kampaně s ohledem na charakter volebního systému. Druhá část příspěvku se zabývá aktivitami Josefa Kalouska v roli zemského poslance, jeho poslaneckými projevy, činností ve stranickém klubu, udržováním kontaktu s voliči, ale i okolnostmi, které nakonec vedly k rozhodnutí neucházet se ve všeobecných volbách roku 1883 o prodloužení své poslanecké funkce. V obecné rovině je studie přínosem pro výzkum volebních a parlamentních praktik Národní strany v prvních letech po transformaci české politiky z režimu pasivní rezistence do módu aktivní parlamentní politiky.

The chapter focuses on Josef Kalousek´s entering the parliamentary arena at the beginning of the 1880´s – especially on his actions as a land representative of the National Party (Old-Czechs). On the background of Kalousek´s personal and professional life, there is outlined his attitude towards the politics and his first failed attempts to acquire a mandate. The significance of the text is in detailed research of the process of nomination within the National Party during the complementary elections in 1880. There is emphasized the communication between the party center and the local political environment. The text describes the form and the progress of the election campaign while regarding the election system. The second part of the study analyzes Josef Kalousek´s activities in the role of a representative, his speeches, activities in the party club and maintaining the contact with his constituents. Furthermore, the text describes the circumstances connected with Kalousek´s decision not to enter the general election of 1883 and thus not to prolong his parliamentary career. Generally, the study itself reveals some interesting facts concerning the election and parliamentary pursuance of the National Party in the first years after the change of the Czech political milieu from passive approach to active parliamentary one.
