The article presents results of ultraviolet (UV) light reflectance differences of wings among 95 species of Central European moths (representing 11 families and inhabiting various habitats). The study was carried out in order to detect the potential impact of biotope on the appearance of moths. Based on digitized photographs taken under UV light conditions and phylogeny-controlled redundancy analysis, the authors present noticeable relationship between species preferring hygrophilous habitats and higher UV wing reflectance. The authors attribute this to predator avoidance under habitat-specific light conditions.
