The aim of this work was to elaborate on the preparation procedure for deposition of Pt onto the moderate surface area carbon support with emphasis on residual Cl content, ESA and activity towards the ORR. Specifically, we focused on simplifying of the procedure for dechlorination of impregnated catalysts using a gas-phase treatment with NH3, and on precipitation of Pt by a microwave-assisted polyol method, in the first step, and mixing the Pt precipitate with the support under controlled conditions, in the second step. The residual content of Cl species was carefully monitored by means of determination of hydrolyzable chlorides using ionliquid chromatography (ILC) and of total chlorine using instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The prepared catalysts were compared among themselves and with a commercial reference catalyst with respect to structural properties, composition and electrochemical performance.
