Electronic excitation energy transfer is studied theoretically within an example system of quantum dots. We use an excitonic representation of the electronic states of two quasi-zero dimensional subsystems, between which the excitation energy is transferred in a process treated as an irreversible quantum kinetic phenomenon. The electron–phonon interaction, which we include in an approximation going beyond the limits of finite order perturbation calculation, is used for considering the so called uphill and downhill excitation transfer processes. The theory of the rate is developed in a model of electronic systems of two quantum dots, both coupled to their atomic vibrations environments. The theoretical approach is documented with numerical calculations. The results should be relevant to various cases of the electronic excitation energy transfer between quasi-zero-dimensional nanostructures.
