    HEK293 cells expressing DOR-Gi1alpha fusion protein were treated with non-ionic detergent Brij-58 and fractionated by flotation in sucrose density gradient. In optimum range of detergent concentrations, Brij58-treated, low-density membrane fragments exhibited 2-3-fold higher efficacy of agonist-induced G protein activity than membranes prepared in the absence of detergent. The potency of agonist response was significantly decreased. At high detergent concentrations, the functional coupling between delta-opioid receptors and G proteins was completely diminished
