In this study, we propose a novel approach of surface treatment of orthopaedic implants combining electric discharge maching (EDM), chemical miling (etching) and shot peening. Each of the three techniques as well as their positive effects on either biocompatibility or mechanical properties are well known, but the combination of these techniques has not yet been considered. The combined surface treatment is promising for a range of applications in orthopaedics
