Caspases are key enzymes activated during the 14 apoptotic machinery. Apoptosis as a way of programmed cell 15 death becomes deregulated in some pathologies including 16 cancer transformations, neurodegenerative, or autoimmune 17 diseases. Most of the methods available for the detection of 18 apoptosis and caspases provide qualitative information only or 19 quantification data as an average from cell populations or cell 20 lysates. Several reports point to the importance of more accu- 21 rate single-cell analyses in biomedical studies due to hetero- 22 geneity at tissue as well as cell level.
