We review physiological roles of mitochondrial uncoupling protein UCP2 emphasising its roles in pancreatic beta-cells. We discuss the antioxidant roles of UCP2, its participation in redox regulations, and the regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. We also point out the role of phospholipase iPLA2gamma in the regulation of UCP2 antioxidant function
