Researchers of animal movements often use functions expressing the dispersal probability decays with increasing, such as the inverse power function, which should, owing to its self-similar charakter, perform robustly against variation in marking efforts. We investigated this function property using mark-recapture data of Nickerl's fritillary (Melitaea aurelia). Slopes of the functions based on marking with highly varying intensity did not differ, suggesting the possibility to obtain reliable dispersal estimates even from brief marking campaigns.
